Originally a luxurious dish enjoyed by royalty in the palace, is called so because it resembles the shape of rice cakes ""tteok"" and is believed to have been created because the king couldn't eat ribs without getting his hands dirty.
Start by thawing the tteokgalbi in advance in the refrigerator.
- Grease a lidded pan with 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, then carefully open the packaging of the thawed tteokgalbi and place it in the pan.
- Over medium-low heat, grill the tteokgalbi, flipping it frequently to prevent the surface from burning, for about 2-3 minutes until it's crispy.
- Add approximately 2 tablespoons of water to the pan, close the lid, and steam for approximately 3 minutes over low heat.
- Cook until the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
